Adios 80’s: A Master Bath Remodel

Feb 21, 2014 3 min read

The owners of this Powell, Ohio home had decided it was time for a change.  The home was built in 1988 and the mirrors and pastel walls had worn out their welcome.  A complete remodel was needed to send the 1980’s look down the drain.  The homeowner did not want to go with fad color schemes and quirky design tricks.  They wanted a traditional look for their master bath.  The couple worked with Jim Deen, owner of Kitchen Kraft, who was referred to them by a neighbor.

Deen set to work by asking what was on their wish list.  They already liked the layout of their bathroom, but the shower could be larger.  A bench and two niches were also a high priority.

First, Deen found real estate for the larger shower.  The shower could not come out any farther since the main entry into the bath was adjacent.  He did find that the shower could come over further towards the tub, by removing the existing partial wall and replacing it with a glass shower enclosure.  The bench was built onto the edge of the tiled tub deck, and the niche areas were recessed into a supporting wall.  Deen used the same tile on the shower walls and floor that was on the tub deck for a seamless look.  The client also chose to have a heated floor system installed.

The client chose cherry cabinets with a new castle door style in a country earth finish, for the vanity and an additional storage tower was added to keep counters clutter-free.  To continue with the traditional style the couple chose a granite countertop and oil rubbed bronze fixtures.

With Deen’s help, the remodeled master bath is the sanctuary the clients had envisioned. They were so excited by the master bath remodel; they have come back to Kitchen Kraft to remodel their other two bathrooms.  Kitchen Kraft has since opened a bathroom remodeling division called Dream Baths.
